Preston County Summer Travel Destinations

Preston County is a wonderful place to visit.  There are activities and adventures to be enjoyed by all!  From some of the best outdoor music events, to tasty treats and all the outdoor recreation you could ask for.  Preston County should be among your top travel destinations for the summer!  Be sure to check out these amazing places during your summer travels. 

For the outdoor recreation enthusiast there are a tremendous amount of activities.  Check out Cheat River Outfitters for awesome whitewater adventures, rock climbing and paintball!!  WVU Canopy Tour offers rock climbing as well.  In addition they also have a canopy course and zip lining.  If you are looking for something a little more relaxing, grab a kayak, canoe, raft, or inner tube and hit the Upper Cheat River Water Trail!  This section of the Cheat River is slow moving and perfect for an afternoon float.  You will be able to kick back and enjoy the beauty of Preston County from a unique perspective while you float down this calm section of river.  You can check out the events at Marvins Mountaintop to catch some Motorcross events.  Check out the fascinating history and events of the Arthurdale area at Arthurdale Heritage.  Or the Bruceton Area at the Old Hemlock Foundation.  You can go hiking/biking in many areas of the county and explore some of our parks.  Check out Preston County Parks and Recreation, Coopers Rock, Cheat Canyon Wildlife Area or Cathedral State Park

For the Arts and Entertainment we have many events you don't want to miss.  To see some fantastic local Appalachian art, check out the gallery at the Preston Community Arts Center and don't forget to check out their list of events as they have events almost every weekend of the year.  There is plenty to do at Chestnut Ridge Park, camping, fishing, swimming and outdoor concerts every Saturday night through the summer.  Every Thursday evening you can catch a free concert at the Bruceton Dam Series.  Before the show, check out Padlz for a quick trip down Big Sandy via canoe, kayak, or paddleboard.  The Cheat river is a fantastic fishery and also has some great swimming areas.  Also the Kingwood Pool will be open this summer!!

For a tasty treat, we have many delicious and unique eateries across the county.  For Dinner and Entertainment check out Shorthorns or Smokin Jacks.  Both places have some great musical acts every week delicious food and killer wings.  For some amazing BBQ Check out Russ's Ribs in Kingwood.  Other great places to grab a bite include Monroe's Deli, Miller's Eats & Sweets, Pizza Pro, and Melanie's
